Locksmith in Marygrove, OntarioDeadbolts installedthe right way

A deadbolt is only as strong as the hole it was bored into and the plate it throws into. In Marygrove we install new deadbolts on doors that have never had one, replace worn units on doors that have, and set the strike so the bolt slides home without lifting or leaning on the door. We serve Clearwater Beach as well.

What we can sort out

The pages that follow describe the lock services offered in Marygrove one by one, without sales talk. Where a service has a simpler or less involved cousin, the page says so. Where a repair will do instead of a replacement, the page says that too. The aim is for you to choose well, not to choose more.

Change or Rekey Locks

Residential services are for the everyday building you live in, whether owned or rented. They range from cutting a spare and fixing a stiff cylinder to replacing every lock after a move, and we will always suggest the smaller job where it does what you need.

  1. Close view of a satin-nickel deadbolt thumbturn and edge faceplate on a painted timber door. — Deadbolt Installation, Marygrove
Deadbolt InstallationThe front door has a handsome lever and a keyed knob, and that is all. Nothing above it.
  2. Detached satin-nickel lever hardware, tubular latch and strike plate on a wooden workbench. — Lock Replacement & Upgrade, Marygrove
Lock Replacement & UpgradeThe brass handleset has gone blotchy and green where the winter salt reaches it, and the coating on the deadbolt is lifting in flakes. It still locks, but it looks tired beside the fresh paint on the door.
  3. Closed mortise lock case with spindle opening, keyhole, latch and deadbolt on a wooden workbench. — Vintage Mortise Lock Service, Marygrove
Vintage Mortise Lock ServiceThe old skeleton key still fits the keyhole, but it now needs a jiggle, a lean on the door and a little luck before the bolt moves. Last week it took three tries.
  4. Person holding a black door-handle assembly and a latch beside a glazed door with exposed lock openings. — Smart Lock Installation, Marygrove
Smart Lock InstallationHalf the evenings someone asks whether the back door got locked, and nobody is sure. A lock that relocks on its own, shows its state in an app and reports when it was last opened would settle the question.
  5. Detached rim gate lock and separate box keeper on an outdoor workbench. — Gate & Building Entry Locks, Marygrove
Gate & Building Entry LocksSomeone pried at the gate latch overnight, and now the strike plate hangs by one screw and the cylinder spins loose in its housing. The gate still closes, technically, but a firm shoulder is all it would take to open it…
  6. Two loose cam locks and a retaining clip resting below an open metal mailbox compartment. — Mailbox Lock Replacement, Marygrove
Mailbox Lock ReplacementThe property manager mentioned that half the compartments in the lobby's mailbox panel are original to the building and are starting to fail one by one, key by key, as tenants turn over year after year.

Locked out in Marygrove? Reach us any hour

A lockout in Marygrove is handled without drama. The locksmith confirms you belong there, then uses the least destructive method the lock allows, so the door and cylinder are usually intact when you walk through. Only when a lock has genuinely failed does he move to drilling, and then he replaces the cylinder and hands you fresh keys before leaving.

Marygrove information

2021 census · what it means at the door

  • 47%Homes of every age

About 47% of homes in Tiny were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.

Mixed housing stock keeps a locksmith versatile. A morning might be a heritage mortise lock rebuilt and an afternoon a smart lock paired to a phone on a steel door. The same care goes into both, with tools and parts for each.

  • 97%Mostly houses

Single-detached houses make up about 97% of homes in Tiny (2021 Census).

Where the housing is mostly single houses, the door into the house from an attached garage is easy to overlook because it feels indoors. It is still an exterior door, and a proper deadbolt there is a sensible, low-fuss upgrade.

The key went in stiffly, turned a quarter of the way, and came out in two pieces. Half of it is still inside the cylinder of the aluminium storefront door, and the deadbolt is hooked firmly into the frame.

Things people wonder about

What is a restricted keyway and is it worth having for a business?

A restricted or patented keyway is one whose blanks are supplied only through the manufacturer's authorised channels, so duplication is controlled rather than available at an ordinary counter, though the exact authorisation step varies by program and is not always a signed letter. For a company with staff turnover, cleaners and contractors, it means the keys in circulation are far easier to track. It can be introduced during a rekey, on the exterior doors only or across the whole premises, and works alongside a key register.

How long does a whole-house rekey take?

Plan on an hour or two for a typical house with three or four cylinders, including the walk-through, identification, pinning, cutting and testing. Each additional cylinder adds a little, as does swapping a cylinder to bring a mismatched door onto the same key, resetting a homeowner-rekeyable lock or clearing a garage opener. The locksmith gives a realistic window on the phone once the list of doors is known.

Should I rekey when I move into a new home?

It is the single most common reason to rekey, and a sensible one. A resale home has typically passed through owners, agents, inspectors, cleaners and trades, any of whom may have had a key cut. A newly built home has been opened by construction crews using a builder's key. Rekeying on move-in means the only working keys are yours, and the same visit can bring every exterior door onto a single key, retiring the assorted keys you inherited.

What happens when the patent on my keys runs out?

The mechanical resistance of the cylinder does not change, but blanks may become openly available, so copy control weakens. Manufacturers issue new patented keyways as older ones expire, and the usual answer is to move to the next generation by changing cylinders and keys while keeping the lock bodies. Your locksmith notes the patent term at handover so the date is on the calendar rather than a surprise years later.

What records should I keep once the system is installed?

The keying chart itself, a log of which key or fob was issued to which person or role, and receipts signed when keys change hands. Together these let the business answer, at any point, who currently holds which level and when it was issued, rather than relying on memory once the locksmith who built the system is no longer involved.
